Erie, PA based family , newborn, and wedding photographer.
Living in Erie, Pennsylvania is such a blessing in the summer with having Lake Erie in our backyards. The peninsula makes one of my favorite backdrops for couple and family photo sessions. We get to be sunset chasers and memory makers. This type of location allows families to really relax and explore, allowing me to document all the little moments of fun!
Wardrobe choices for a session on Lake Erie can be dramatically different than what you might wear in a field or the woods. The beach gives off a very chill and relaxed vibe, and I like to plan outfits accordingly! I always tell my clients to kick off their shoes and plan to get wet! Color schemes that work best, in my opinion, are creamy neutrals or earthy tones. These colors compliment the backdrop so well, while allowing everyone to stand out.
Golden hour is one of the most important elements of photography, as it yields stunning visuals and amazing lighting opportunities. During golden hour, the light is soft yet warm which allows me to create beautiful scenes that you can’t get at any other time of day.
Since we are on a flat plain, with no objects to diffuse the sun, we have to start the session right as the sun starts to set! If a beach session is on your want list, be sure to check with me on what time the session would start! A lot of clients are often surprised when I tell them their June photo shoot will be at 8:30PM but I promise, it is worth it!
I often find that parents first reaction to their kids running towards the water is “No, don’t get wet”. I will be the first to tell them that ITS OK, I promise that those little feet and hands splashing in the water will make sure such wonderful memories.
My beach workflow always starts back at the dunes and grass, saving the water area for last. This allows me to capture the “everyone smile and look at me photo” and get that out of the way, while everyone still looks fresh. Now the fun can begin!
I always want to remind my clients that I am there to give prompts, not pose. Posing you wouldn’t be telling YOUR story as authentically as possible.
